At the age of 26, Capriles first ventured into politics, when he was elected to the Metropolitan Council of Caracas. In this role, he became an outspoken critic of the Chávez administration and was eventually expelled from the party. He then founded his own party, Primero Justicia, which became one of the leading opposition parties in Venezuela.
