Henry Hill sold Madeira wine to President George Washington. Hill was an English wine merchant who moved to America in 1773 and began importing Madeira wine. He became a close friend of Washington and sold him wine on several occasions. Hill also sold wine to other prominent Americans, including John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
