Henry Hope was 29 years old when he first elected to the office of the Mayor of Philadelphia in 1789. Hope was born in 1760 in Philadelphia and attended the College of Philadelphia. He became a successful merchant and was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1786. He served as Mayor of Philadelphia from 1789 to 1790.
