Henry Hudson was an English explorer who was the first European to see Hudson Strait and Hudson Bay. In 1609, he led an expedition of the Dutch East India Company to find a northwest passage to Asia. He sailed through Hudson Strait and into Hudson Bay, but he was unable to find a passage through to the Pacific Ocean.
