Henry II was born in 1133 in Le Mans, France. His father was Geoffrey V, Count of Anjou, and his mother was Matilda of England. In 1154, Henry became King of England when his father died. He was also the Duke of Normandy, Aquitaine, and Gascony. In 1155, Henry was crowned King of the Romans by Pope Adrian IV.
