In addition to being a composer, Mancini was also a conductor. He led the 20th Century Fox Studio Orchestra from 1960 to 1980, and conducted the orchestra on the soundtracks of many of his own films, as well as the films of other composers. He also conducted the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert performance of his score for "The Pink Panther" in 1964.
