In 1877, the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. On November 22, 1892, Henry Wood conducted the first British performance of Eugene Onegin at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
