Answer
Pontus is the location that Pope Pius IV associates with Hippolytus. Hippolytus, a prominent early Christian theologian and bishop of Rome, was banished to Pontus during the reign of Emperor Maximinus Thrax in the 3rd century. He may have been martyred there and his relics are said to be preserved in the Church of San Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome.
