Hiroshi Amano was born on September 11, 1960. He is a Japanese physicist and engineer known for his work on the development of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs). For this work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2014, along with Isamu Akasaki and Shuji Nakamura.
