Hissène Habré served as the President of Chad for nine years from 1982 to 1990. He came to power in a military coup and ruled the country with an iron fist. He was accused of human rights abuses, including torture and extrajudicial killings. He was eventually overthrown in a coup and fled to Senegal, where he was arrested and extradited to Belgium in 2012.
