Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was previously known as the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET). The AEET was established in 1954 by Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, an Indian physicist who is considered to be the father of the Indian nuclear program. The AEET was renamed to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in 1966 in honour of Dr. Bhabha, who died in a plane crash in 1966.
