Abahai, also known as Hong Taiji, was the second ruler of the Later Jin dynasty (1626-1636) and later the first emperor of the Qing dynasty (1636-1643) in China. He is credited with consolidating Manchu rule over much of China, developing the Eight Banners military system, and beginning the process of sinicization that would shape the Qing dynasty's identity and policies.
