Hua Guofeng was the leader of the People's Republic of China from 1976 to 1981. He held the top offices of the government, party, and the military after the deaths of Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai. Hua was a close ally of Mao and was chosen as his successor. However, he was not able to consolidate his power and was eventually replaced by Deng Xiaoping.
