Hubert Pierlot was a lawyer before entering politics. He studied law at the University of Leuven and was admitted to the bar in 1912. He practiced law in Brussels for several years before entering politics. In 1919, he was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Deputies as a member of the Catholic Party. He served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 1939 to 1945.
