The University of Basel is a university in Basel, Switzerland. It was founded in 1460 as the first university in Switzerland and is the oldest university in the German-speaking world. Huldrych Zwingli, a Swiss Protestant reformer, attended the University of Basel from 1506 to 1515. He studied theology and philosophy, and was influenced by the teachings of Erasmus of Rotterdam.
