Iannis Xenakis lost an eye during World War II. He was serving in the Greek army when he was wounded by a grenade in 1943. He lost his left eye and was left with a permanent scar on his face. The injury did not stop him from pursuing a career in music, however. He went on to become one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.
