By 1902, Ibn Saud had control over parts of the kingdom. He had successfully taken back Riyadh from the Al Rashid clan, who had been in control of the city for the previous 30 years. Ibn Saud was able to do this with the help of his father, Muhammad bin Saud, and a group of followers who were loyal to him.
