Answer
The New Jersey Devils acquired Ilya Kovalchuk on February 4, 2010, in a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Thrashers. In exchange for Kovalchuk, the Thrashers received defensemen Johnny Oduya and Niclas Bergfors, as well as prospects Patrice Cormier and Johan Hedberg. Kovalchuk signed a 17-year, $100 million contract with the Devils, making him the highest-paid player in the NHL at the time.
