Imre Nagy was arrested and deported to Romania after the Soviet Union and its allies invaded Hungary in 1956. Nagy had been the leader of the Hungarian Revolution, which had sought to overthrow the Soviet-backed government of Hungary. Nagy was imprisoned in Romania until his death in 1989.
