The Romanian Communist Party (RCP), was the country's ruling political party from 1947 until the Romanian Revolution of 1989. It was founded in 1921 as the Socialist Party of Romania and changed to the RCP in 1948, following the abdication of King Michael I and the establishment of the Romanian People's Republic.
