Pablo Neruda was a Chilean poet, diplomat and politician who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971. His work was often political and he was a strong supporter of the socialist government of Salvador Allende. Allende was also a writer and he is often compared to Neruda for their shared political views and their use of poetry to express their beliefs.
