Isamu Akasaki was born in 1929. He is a Japanese physicist and engineer who is best known for his work on the development of the blue light-emitting diode (LED). For his work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2014, along with Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura.
