Ishirō Honda was a Japanese film director, producer, and special effects artist. He is considered one of the pioneers of the kaiju genre and is best known for his work on the Godzilla films. After retiring from directing, Honda worked on five more films, including The Mysterians, Matango, and Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster. He died in 1993 at the age of 80.
