Ishirō Honda was a Japanese film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for his work in science fiction, tokusatsu and kaiju films. He is credited with directing the original Gojira, which is often considered to be the first kaiju film. Honda's directorial debut was the 1953 film Ise-Shima, which was a fictionalized account of the 1952 Ise-Shima typhoon.
