Isoroku Yamamoto was the Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. He is best known for planning and leading the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which brought the United States into the war. Yamamoto was killed in April 1943 when his plane was shot down by American fighter planes.
