The US Army Air Forces was responsible for the death of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy. On April 18, 1943, the US Army Air Forces bombed Yamamoto's aircraft while he was flying to a meeting in the Solomon Islands. The attack killed Yamamoto and several of his staff.
