Italo Calvino was an Italian writer and journalist. He was born in Santiago de las Vegas, Cuba, but moved to Italy with his family when he was still a child. He is considered one of the most important writers of the 20th century, and his work has been translated into many languages. Calvino died in Siena, Italy, in 1985, and is buried in Castiglione della Pescaia, Tuscany.
