Lij Iyasu was born in 1892 and ruled Ethiopia from 1913 to 1916. He was a member of the House of Shewa, a royal dynasty that ruled Ethiopia from the 13th century until 1974. The House of Shewa was founded by Emperor Yekuno Amlak, who overthrew the Zagwe dynasty in 1270. Lij Iyasu was the son of Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taitu Betul.
