Grimm's law is a set of sound correspondences between the Germanic languages and their earlier forms. It is named after Jacob Grimm, one of the two brothers who compiled the first systematic comparative grammar of the Germanic languages. Grimm's law states that certain consonants in Proto-Indo-European (PIE) were replaced by other consonants in the Germanic languages.
