Bessie Mae Pittman, later known as Jacqueline Cochran, was an American aviator and business executive. She was a pioneer in the field of aviation, setting numerous records and becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. She also founded the Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) during World War II.
