Jacques de Molay was the 23rd grand master of the Knights Templar, a Christian military order founded in 1119 during the Crusades. He was born in Molay, France, in about 1243, and became a Templar in 1265. He was elected grand master in 1292, and led the order during its decline. In 1307, he was arrested by King Philip IV of France and charged with heresy.
