Jahan Shah expanded the territory of the Qara Qoyunlu to include most of Iraq, Iran, and Kerman. This expansion was due in part to his military prowess and in part to the political fragmentation of the region. Jahan Shah was able to take advantage of the chaos that followed the death of Timur in 1405 to conquer large swaths of territory.
