James A. Blount served two terms in the Mississippi Senate. He was elected in 1873 and served until 1877. He was then re-elected in 1881 and served until 1885. Blount was a Republican and was one of the first African Americans to serve in the Mississippi Senate. He was a strong advocate for civil rights and education for African Americans.
