James Earle's third son, Henry Earle, was a surgeon. Earle was born in England in 1797 and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He moved to the United States in 1822 and practiced surgery in New York City. Earle was a pioneer in the use of anesthetics in surgery and was a founding member of the American Medical Association. He died in New York City in 1870.
