Answer
In the Jacobite rising of 1715, James Francis Edward Stuart, known as the Old Pretender, made an attempt to regain the British throne for the Stuart dynasty. He was supported by Scottish Highlanders and English Jacobites, but faced opposition from the British government and its supporters. Despite initial successes, James's forces were ultimately defeated at the Battle of Sheriffmuir, and he was forced to flee back to France.
