In addition to his career as a scholar and economist, James M. Buchanan also had a number of other affiliations. He was a member of the Mont Pelerin Society, an international organization of classical liberals and libertarians, and served as its president from 1984 to 1985. He was also a member of the American Philosophical Society and the National Academy of Sciences.
