Jan Karski lived in Washington D.C. until the end of his life. He moved there in 1952 after spending several years living in the United Kingdom. He served as a Polish diplomat and was instrumental in helping the United States government understand the atrocities that were being committed against Jews and other minorities in Nazi-occupied Europe. Karski died in Washington D.C. in 1978.
