Jan Karski was born on June 24, 1914 in Łódź, Poland. He was a Polish diplomat and resistance fighter who risked his life to inform the Allies about the Holocaust. He smuggled reports out of Poland and gave speeches to the Allied governments, urging them to take action. He also wrote a book about his experiences, called "Story of a Secret State".
