Jan Železný is considered the greatest javelin thrower of the modern era. He won the gold medal at the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Summer Olympics, as well as the World Championships in 1993, 1995, and 1997. He also set the world record for the javelin throw on six occasions, with his best throw of 98.48 meters coming in 1996. Železný was born in Žďár nad Sázavou, Czechoslovakia, in 1966.
