Hašek was a Czech author. He is best known for his novels The Good Soldier Švejk, which was published in installments from 1921 to 1923. The novel is set during World War I and follows the adventures of a simple soldier who is constantly getting into trouble. Hašek was a pacifist and his novel was a satire of war. He died in 1923 at the age of 38.
