Jean de La Fontaine was a French poet who is considered to be one of the greatest writers of fables. He wrote a collection of 243 fables in verse that were inspired by Aesop's Fables. In addition to his original versions, he also created alternative versions of some of the fables, which he used to illustrate different moral lessons.
