Jean-François de Galaup was a naval officer who was born in 1735. He joined the French Navy at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. He was eventually appointed as the commander of the French fleet in the Pacific Ocean. In this role, he led a number of successful campaigns against the British and Spanish.
