Jean-Léon Gérôme attended the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, from 1842 to 1848. During his time at the school, he studied under Paul Delaroche and won several awards, including the Prix de Rome in 1847. After graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts, Gérôme went on to become one of the most successful and influential painters of the 19th century.
