Jean-Marc Ayrault was the Prime Minister of France from 15 May 2012 to 31 March 2014. He was appointed as the Prime Minister by President François Hollande after the 2012 French presidential election. He resigned from the post on 31 March 2014 after the Socialist Party suffered a heavy defeat in the 2014 French municipal elections. He was succeeded by Manuel Valls.
