Marat was assassinated by Charlotte Corday, a member of the Girondins, a faction of the French National Convention that was opposed to Marat's Jacobins. Corday visited Marat's home on July 13, 1793, and stabbed him to death while he was taking a bath. Corday was guillotined the next day.
