Henry III succeeded Jeanne as the King of France after her death in 1589. He was her son and had been fighting with her for the throne for many years. He was a weak and ineffectual ruler who was unable to unite the country or defeat the Huguenots. He died in 1598 and was succeeded by his cousin, Henry IV.
