Jeanne Moreau began her acting career in Theatre. In 1949, she was offered a role in a play at the Comédie-Française, and she remained with the company for three years. During this time, she appeared in a number of classic plays, including Molière's Le Misanthrope and Racine's Phèdre. In 1952, she left the Comédie-Française to pursue a career in film.
