In order to curb the excesses of financial institutions that contributed to the 2008 financial crisis, Senator Jeff Merkley co-sponsored the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010. The bill included provisions for increased regulation of the financial industry, consumer protection measures, and the creation of a new Financial Stability Oversight Council.
