Annie Besant was a British socialist, theosophist, and women's rights activist who led Theosophical Society from 1907 until her death in 1933. Besant was also an influential figure in the Indian independence movement, and she was the first woman to be elected to the British Parliament. She is best known for her work with the young Jiddu Krishnamurti, whom she adopted and raised as a potential world teacher.
