Jigme Singye Wangchuck became the king of Bhutan in 1972, succeeding his father, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. He was the fourth Druk Gyalpo, or "Dragon King," of Bhutan. During his reign, he oversaw the country's transition to a constitutional monarchy and introduced a number of reforms, including the establishment of a National Assembly and the introduction of a modern education system.
